WISER Co-Hosts First Education Day in Muhuru Bay

April 25th, 2009

Together in partnership with the Hotchkiss School from the United States, and the Muhuru Bay Primary School Heads Association, WISER co-hosted the first Education Day in Muhuru Bay on March 17, 2009 at Rabwao Secondary School. Over 3,000 students were in attendance together with their teachers and parents to celebrate and recognize the achievements and challenges of improving education standards in the division of Muhuru.

Each school provided a song, dance, or poem for the event and entered a girls and boys team in the first WISERBridge Soccer Cup. The top performing girls and boys were provided prizes for excellence in academics and athletics and the top performing school was awarded to Nyangwayo Primary School teachers and staff as motivating rewards for achievement.

According to the District Education Officer Representative to the event, “This was a historic day for Muhuru - a time for reflection, celebration and planning for the future. Together with the WISER team, the Muhuru Bay region has begun to see a change for the better for its schools, teachers and pupils. We want this to be replicated across the region. Congratulations!”
